Warrior Nun executive producer Dean English has offered an update on the series' planned movie trilogy after one year of silence after its revival was announced. After Warrior Nun season 2 ended, the show was cancelled by Netflix, resulting in a global fan campaign to have the series continue. In August of 2023, English announced the series would return with a movie trilogy. However, following the announcement that original showrunner Simon Barry would not be involved in this new iteration, news has been scarce about the status of the project.
Now, the fan-run OCS Newsletter has published a letter from English to fans of Warrior Nun, breaking a year of silence surrounding the show's planned movie trilogy. The executive producer discussed the history of adapting Ben Dunn's comic of the same name, including how efforts have been ongoing for over 10 years. While remaining vague, he apologized for years of turmoil the adaptation's development has been under, including acknowledging the ongoing financial probe into Productivity Media Inc., the production company involved with the new movie trilogy.
English continues by lamenting the suspension of PMI's CEO, William Santor, and admits the event has dealt "a significant blow" to the development of the forthcoming project. However, he hopes that, no matter what form the upcoming story takes, it will embody the spirit of the franchise. He ends the letter with hopes fans of the series will continue to put faith into the upcoming movie trilogy. Check out what English had to say below:
In light of all the recent drama surrounding William Santor's suspension at PMI and its effect on the future of Warrior Nun, I wanted to reach out and say a few words.
I have been working on Warrior Nun for over ten years now - and despite all the usual ups and downs that will always affect the movie industry - it has been my experience that this is the one project that keeps on going no matter how many hurdles it encounters. Instead - each time things seem hopeless - it keeps coming back in new iterations - always better, more relevant, and more sophisticated than the last version - showing us how badly these stories need telling.
The Warrior Nun family started with just two people. Amazingly, it has grown to millions of people worldwide. To all of you so deeply invested in this universe, I need to apologise for some of the things that have happened over the last few years. So much of this has been due to nonsense behind the scenes - things I am not at liberty to share with you - but I know there have been a lot of hurt feelings and expectations that feel cast aside. Most of you may not know (and perhaps not care) - but I share many of these hurt feelings. Dreams come crashing down - and the suspension of this person we trusted has been a significant blow.
But when I look back at Warrior Nun as a ten-year event, I realise that neither Netflix nor any other company - not even Avatrice [fan name for the show's romantic pairing Ava and Beatrice] - are the beginning or the end. They are one incredible story we have loved to tell in this world. But while we may or may not be able to continue on their specific journey, there are many similar stories this universe has to offer.
There have been some really dark moments along the way - but I have always had faith to keep pushing ahead. There is always something deep down that demands we keep going! I hope you will come to feel that same hope I do.
I look forward to reconnecting with you all for the next step of this journey.
What Dean English's Letter Means For Warrior Nun's Future
There Still Aren't Concrete Details About What Will Happen Next
While he doesn't offer a concrete update on the trilogy's development process, the letter clearly indicates the plans in place a year ago are still moving forward.
English's letter is the first public acknowledgment made about the Warrior Nun movies since October 2023, when Dunn hosted an event for fans to design a new Halo for the trilogy. This, compounded with Barry's absence from the trilogy, resulted in "#SaveOURWarriorNun," a new campaign pushing for the continuation of the Netflix series instead of a reboot. Since then, the only concrete news related to the series' return was PMI's financial probe, something that appeared to be a potential setback for plans of the movie trilogy.

Warrior Nun's cancelation still makes me sad because yet another Netflix story is unfinished, despite the fantasy show having 84% on Rotten Tomatoes.
The letter from English does confirm that PMI's suspension of Santor will negatively impact Warrior Nun's development. While he doesn't offer a concrete update on the trilogy's development process, the letter clearly indicates the plans in place a year ago are still moving forward. Although this confirms the franchise is planned to return at some point in the future, it doesn't indicate the Netflix rendition fans are still trying to save will be the one that comes back. However, something for the series is still in the works, despite this new setback.
Our Take On English's Letter To Warrior Nun Fans
The Wait For More Solid Information Continues
Now that English has acknowledged Warrior Nun's planned revival is still going to happen, the misfortunes surrounding PMI seem like they won't be stopping whatever plans he has for the franchise. However, with many fans still campaigning for a continuation of the Netflix series, it remains to be seen how the movie trilogy will pan out depending on its story focus. With strong information about its story and characters still not available, it appears the wait for more will be delayed a while longer until the new project has more solid footing.
